We need your help!

We are working on a new display that will showcase uniforms on mannequins from each decade in the 1900's. If you or someone you know owns a uniform used in the 1920s we would greatly appreciate your help in allowing us to display how baseball uniforms have changed throughout the years. Please contact the Museum Office if you have any information regarding this matter.

2011 Annual Patron Donor Campaign

Since the first Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame induction banquet was held at Brandon University in 1997, 222 individuals, 45 teams and 10 special groups have been recognized.

We have a wonderful museum located in the Morden Access Centre which showcases the inductees and promotes the heritage and history of baseball in Manitoba. Only two other baseball museums exist in the country, one at North Battleford, Saskatchewan and the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in St. Mary’s, Ontario.

The Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum currently has one major source of revenue to finance the organization and the operation of the museum – the induction banquet. Additional sources of revenue are needed to maintain the high quality standards that have been set. We are continuing with our annual patron donor campaign for those who would like to see that these high standards are being maintained.

The suggested donation for this campaign will be $50 for an individual and $100 for a corporation or organization. Please feel free to donate more if you wish. Benefits include an optional income tax receipt, names listed in our newsletter and on the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame web site, and the opportunity to support a worthy cause. We need your support to help our museum in its efforts to maintain a top class and flourishing facility.

Many of our current supporters do have a life membership and we invite them to support our patron program so our volunteer driven organization can meet its ongoing responsibilities.

Every person making a patron donation on or before the annual induction ceremony on June 2,2012 will be eligible to win a cash prize

A donation form is available and can be found on the Manitoba Hall of Fame web site at www.mbhof.ca. Cheques or credit card information along with the completed form may be mailed to our secretary-treasurer. David Olsen 552 Jubilee Ave. Winnipeg R3L 1P2

GLADWYN SCOTT INDUCTED INTO THE CANADIAN BASEBALL HALL OF FAME

L-R: Tom Valcke, Gladwyn Scott and John Starzynski

Picture from http://www.baseballhalloffame.ca/

Scott was formally inducted when they held their annual ceremonies on June 28, 2008 in St. Mary's Ont. He is Manitoba's first home grown Hall of Famer. Scott, 76 years old, has contributed 60 years of his life to baseball as a player, coach, builder and volunteer. He played on his home-based McConnell team until he was 50 years old, along with brother Glennis and father Jim. Scott coached Canada's first national team, during the 1967 Pam Am Games. He also was involved with coaching the Red Sox senior team and several youth teams in Hamiota, Carman, Souris, Warren, Stonewall and Carberry. Scott, a former vice-president of Baseball Canada, also was president of the Manitoba Baseball Association in 1987, where he still is chairman of the senior council. In addition, he is the founder of the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Scott has already been inducted provincially in the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame, Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame and the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame.

JIM MUTCHESON INDUCTED INTO THE MANITOBA SPORTS HALL OF FAME

Jimmy (Jim) Mutcheson, already an inductee of the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999, recently added another provincial sport induction to his long list of accomplishments on April 26th, 2008. James Adrian Mutcheson was born in Portage la Prairie, a natural athlete, particularly in both Baseball and Hockey. He won three SEMHL championships with the Miami Rockets in 1942-1962 along with Provincial A & B titles in 1962 all as a goaltender. He was also named top goalie in the South East Manitoba Hockey League three times. The sport most often linked to Jim's name is Baseball though, although Hockey was still a great love. He coached minor hockey from 1950-85 and was of great assistance with the building of outdoor rinks for the 'youngsters'. He also coached minor baseball from 1950-78 in Morden and Steinbach(helping to build Minor Ball Parks at both locations), his teams winning regionals throughout the years. In 1966, he coached Man-Dak to silver medals at the Western Canadians. Jim also served as Chairman of Little Canadian Baseball from 1974-82 and was honoured with both a 60th anniversary medal and the Meritorious Service Medal. Jim is a man known for his continuous passion to assist teams and build parks and rinks for the 'youngsters', so this induction is very well-deserved.
