Andy Alexiuk

Andy Alexiuk was involved in baseball for 40 years as a player, coach, and administrator. Alexiuk started in Sundown - Vassar district, was later associated with Erickson, Balmoral, CUAC Blues, South End Sioux, St. Boniface Mallards, Vita, St. Boniface Native Sons, and the Transcona Buccaneers. Andy was the prime organizer of the Redboine League and coached the Western Canada gold medallists in 1978 at Nanaimo.


Neil Andrews

Date of Birth: May 28, 1948-Feb 17, 2007

Neil Andrews was a tireless volunteer who had a great sense of humour. Andrews involvement in baseball began as a volunteer in 1983. Andrews was the founder of both the Westman Super League of Curling and the Brandon Ora Dental Marlins Senior Baseball team. Neil started the Ora Dental Marlins Senior Baseball team in 1995 and continued to manage the team. Neil guided the Marlins to four Manitoba Senior Baseball League titles. Andrews also coached minor and senior baseball in Brandon. As a coach he taught his players respect for the game as well as themselves. Although he was very demanding he wanted the best for his players. Neil Andrews was a fiery competitor and never had any trouble speaking his mind. He was the director of the Westbran Stadium Group since its inception. Westbran Stadium in Brandon was renamed Andrews Field after Andrews because of his involvement at the Stadium and in sports Manitoba. Neil Andrews helped not only the Manitoba Senior Baseball League, but Minor Baseball and baseball throughout the entire province as well.


Pat Angers

Pat Angers was a versatile player who usually pitched or played third. He was also a tremendous clutch hitter and helped Miami win five consecutive Provincial finals from 1952-56. Pat played Senior baseball from 1958-62 and 1971-80 with Miami, Selkirk, Keewatin, Binscarth, Fort Whyte, Precious Blood, Neepawa, and Carman. He played third base on Team Canada at the World Championships in 1972 in Nicaragua. Pat received the M.S.B.L MVP award in 1974 leading the Neepawa Cubs to the league finals with a 5-1-1 pitching record, four homeruns and a .357 batting average.Later, Pat coached in the Neepawa Minor Baseball Association. Angers was a highly competitive outstanding athlete and he excelled in several sports.


Laurie Artiss

A founding member of the Manitoba Minor Baseball Association, he was the first President of the Manitoba Senior Baseball League. Formerly an Athletic Director in Dauphin and Virden, and sports editor of the Brandon Sun.


Raymond Asselstine

Inducted: 2000
Date of Birth: September 7, 1930
Location: McConnell

Ray was an outstanding pitcher with speed and an awesome curve. He started pitching senior ball with McConnell at 15 years old and was hired by Wapella, Saskatchewan to pitch in 1949 and 1950. Ray went with an area team to a giant junior tournament at Fort Qu`Appelle, and pitched semi-final and final against Regina and Saskatoon. Asseltine was named all-star third baseman at Indian Head, Saskatchewan in 1954. Ray started coaching at Beulah in 1958. The Bantam team won the Western Manitoba title in 1965 and 1966, and some players from this team went on to help Hamiota win the Manitoba Midget crown in 1967 and Cardale won the Western Canada title in 1968.


Russel "Red" Atkin

Date of Birth: June 6,1899-March 9, 1946

Carberry,player,power hitting,slick fielding, first baseman with great Carberry teams of the 1920`s & 30`s. Russel was sometimes recruited to play with Neeoawa High Bluff & Brandon, played against Hap Felsch. H.L. "Krug" Crawford of the Brandon Sun stated that "Red" Atkin was one of the most colorful and popular athletic figures in Western Manitoba and was a power in baseball and hockey. Russel`s potent bat broke up many a tight ball game and he was a competent umpire and referee. Bill Addison said "Red could have been a professional in baseball and hockey but the barber opted to stay in carberry and care for his widowed mother.


Bob Audette

Date of Birth: 1940
Location: Sammanish, Washington

Bob was a very good southpaw hurler, played excellent fastball, and had a fine curve. Bob starred in bantam, midget, and junior ball with Isaac Brock Community Club under Alf Sobkowich before moving to senior ball. In 1963 and 64 Bob plyed with the Transcona Atomics, and he had a combined pitching record of 17- 4. Audette also played first base and was a consistent hitter averaging over .320 in seven years with Transcona. Audette made the league all star team each year both as first base man and as a pitcher, and he was the leading pitcher during the playoffs for each year.


Harry Barchuk

Date of Birth: November 23, 1917
Location: St. Boniface

Harry Barchuk was involved as a player, coach, and manager from 1933-43 with Norwood and CUAC. In 1937 his pitching record was 23 wins, 3 losses. In 1940 he was pitcher and manager for Norwood`s champions of the city league. In 1942 he coached the CUAC Blues, who won city league championship and had a record of 24-8-1, one of the best in the league`s history. Barchuk also coached girl`s fastball. Barchuk quit baseball in 1949, saw more than 800 major league games, was in Candlestick Park, San Francisco on October 19, 1989 when a Big Earthquake struck.


Joe Baron

Date of Birth: August 30, 1930
Location: Winnipeg

Joe Baon was a right-handed pitcher with the effective arsenal of curve, screwball, overhand drop balls. Baron was also an above average hitter and baserunner. joe led Riverdale to four championships between 1946 and 1950 and was named to the Junior League all-star teams in 1950 and 1951. Joe pitched for St. Boniface Native Sons until 1955, and was on three city championship clubs. He was also a prominent player in basketball and hockey. Baron coached community club hockey and baseball and was Chairman of the Board of Winnipeg Harvest.


Bobby Bend

Inducted: 1997
Date of Birth: 1914
Location: Poplar Point

Born at Poplar Point in 1914, a member of a famous Portage district family. He began to umpire at age 16 and umpired in the Interlake region for some 50 years.
