Willie Berezinski

Willie Berezinski was a player who started senior baseball at 16 years old with Binscarth, excelled with the Buffaloes, Orioles, Holar All Stars (Sk.) and the Dauphin Redbirds. Willie was a great power hitter and a good pitcher in his younger days. He won first Manitoba senior Baseball league batting crown in 1961 with a .549 average. Willie consistently hit over .333 with the Redbirds in M.S.B.L. and was known as a quiet, humble good sportsman who now lives at Port Alberni, B.C. He singled to spoil southpaw Bill Cundiff`s (St. Lazare) bid for a no hitter. Willie Berezinski was inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003 with the Holar All Stars.

Gary Blaine
Inducted: 1998
Date of Birth: born April 19, 1933
Outstanding catcher and power hitter, played with West End Memorials, Rosedale midgets and juniors, River Heights Cardinals. Winnipeg Buffaloes, St. Boniface Native Son, Fort White, Bowsman, attended Washington Senators camp in 1950.

Ken Blight

Ken was a southpaw pitcher who started with Portage at age 24 against Poplar Point. Ken played three years with Oakville in a junior league with Winnipeg Maroons, Portage and MacGregor, in late 40`s and early 50`s. Ken played first base, outfield and pitcher for 17 years, played tournament ball extensively, and pitched a 3-2 win over Winnipeg Buffaloes for Neepawa.

Dave Boileau

Location: Vassar
Dave Boileau was an outstanding pitcher from Vassar. He started in 1931 as a 13 year old with the seniors. In the 1930`s tournament baseball flourished and Dave often pitched 3-4 five inning games daily with his regular catcher Bill Bjornson of Piney. His maximum performance was a 28 inning affair in Vassar. Dave retired in 1955 and was inducted into the M.B.A. Honour Society in 1997.

Ernie Boushy

Date of Birth: November 14, 1933
Location: Calgary
Ernie was born in Gilbert Plains and played with the Dauphin Redbirds from 1948-51, the Carman Cardinals of the ManDak League in 1952, and in Welch, West Virginia in the Appalachian League in 1953.Ernie also played in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in the Piedmont League in 1954. Boushy was the batting champion in 1953 in the Appalachian League, but could not expect to move up from minor leagues, so he returned home to Swan River in 1955. In the 1960s Boushy was a very prominent curler, and skipped rink to four provincial and two national mixed titles in 1955.

Lloyd Brown

Lloyd Brown started with Virden in the late 40s - in his first senior game he had three hits against the touring Muskogee Cardinals. Lloyd moved to Brandon and played for the Brandon Mental Hospital, Athletics, and the Cloverleafs. Brown helped the Cloverleafs win four CMBA titles, 1957-60. In the MSBL Lloyd hit .444 in 1961 and .414 in 1962, and was all-star second baseman. In 1970 Lloyd helped form the Westman Bison League, and then rejoined Cloverleafs in 1975. Lloyd served over ten years as the MSBL Director and three years(1985-88) as the league`s president. Lloyd Brown was inducted into MBA Honor Society in 1989.

Ab Bruce

Ab Bruce was a power hitting catcher, strong throwing arm, tough competitor, and was respected by everyone. He played for the Charleswood Juveniles in 1948, the C.U.A.C. Blues from 1949-52, played in three all star games, and in 1952 had three hits including a game winning home run in the fifth at Osborne Stadium. Bruce also received the American Legion Post Trophy as league M.V.P. From 1953-60 Bruce played for C.U.A.C. in Winnipeg, and from 1955-60 he was an original member of the Fort Whyte tournament team, he was known for hitting high averages in his 13 year career and was also an excellent hockey player.

Lynn Caldwell

Lynn Caldwell was an excellent player who was chosen as M.S.B.L. third baseman on the 40 year all star team, voted M.S.B.L. first all star team nine times, and second all star team three times. Caldwell`s batting average in 13 seasons was .285 and he led M.S.B.L. in RBI`s for three consecutive years. Caldwell played with the Oil Dome all stars at Davenport, Iowa Pony Championships (1957), Hamiota won M.S.B.L. pennant in 61, 62, 64, 65, 67 and league championship in 62, 63, 64.

Lorne Caldwell

Born in 1917, he played in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, a good hitter who pitched and played second base despite the fact he could throw only underhand because of a shoulder injury. Managed and coached Hamiota Red Sox, 1961-1971, winning 5 pennants and 3 league titles in the M.S.B.L.

Dick Campbell

Date of Birth: July 4, 1924- July 4, 1998
Location: Minto
Dick farmed at Minto and was a Riverside outfielder for 14 years. He spent 30 years as a meticulous scorekeeper with his blind announcer, Maurice Meyers for Riverside, was president of M.S.B.L. from 1971- 75, the M.B.A. Honour Society in 1976, and was the M.S.B.L. Director at his death. "Dick Campbell was one of the M.S.B.L.`s most tireless workers. He was respected by everyone connected with the M.S.B.L. "Brandon Sun."
