Ab Bruce

Inducted: 2004
Date of Birth: January 27, 1932
Location: Winnipeg

Ab Bruce was a power hitting catcher, strong throwing arm, tough competitor, and was respected by everyone. He played for the Charleswood Juveniles in 1948, the C.U.A.C. Blues from 1949-52, played in three all star games, and in 1952 had three hits including a game winning home run in the fifth at Osborne Stadium. Bruce also received the American Legion Post Trophy as league M.V.P. From 1953-60 Bruce played for C.U.A.C. in Winnipeg, and from 1955-60 he was an original member of the Fort Whyte tournament team, he was known for hitting high averages in his 13 year career and was also an excellent hockey player.


Ab Richardson

Date of Birth: 1910 - 1982
Location: McConnell, Manitoba

Born in 1910, pitched for McConnell, Bradwardine, and Hartney before becoming an umpire, where he made his mark on the game. Was umpire-in-chief for M.S.B.L. for several seasons, and conducted countless umpiring clinics. He was also rewarded honourary life membership in M.S.B.L. Ab was also inducted into the M.B.A. Honour Society in 1971. President of M.S.B.L. in 1966, 1969, 1970.


Al Evason

Al Evason was a brilliant outfielder with Dauphin Redbirds 1956 to 1963 where they won titles in Northern League in 1956, Man-Sask League in 1958, and Manitoba Senior Baseball League in 1961. In 1961 he was a MSBL all star left fielder and had a .438 batting average. He was the top hitter with Bowsman Maroons in 1963 and with Thompson Reds 1968 – 1973. He was the leading hitter with Flin Flon Johnny’s Cardinals 1964 – 1966. Evason retired from competitive play in 1973 and was known as a hustler and a strong defensive outfielder.


Al Robertson

Al Robertson was an excellent player and builder in baseball. Robertson was the M.S.B.L. batting champ in 1967 when he hit .395, and was on the M.S.B.L. all-star team 12 times. Al was the M.S.B.L. President from 1982 to 1984, M.B.A. coach of the year in 1985, M.B.A. President in 1970-71, and member of M.B.A. Honour Society (1988). Robertson batted .482 for Team Canada at 1967 Pan Am Games. In 1985 Al was named Western Manitoba Sportsman of the Year, and becamse a member of the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.


Al Johnson

Al Johnson was a talented left handed pitcher, first baseman, and outfielder, was the starting first sacker for River Heights Cardinals in Tribune Junior All Star and was perennial all star. Al was a valued member of the St. Boniface Native Sons and Fort White teams and performed for excellent Winnipeg Maroons junior team who played out of Osborne Stadium. Al Johnson was a classy first baseman, good hitter, and fierce competitor with a gentlemanly attitude.


Al Kinley

Location: Elmwood

Al Kinley was inducted into the Builder category. For 45 years, Al has been an advocate for baseball in the Province of Manitoba and his beloved Elmwood Giants. He is a highly successful coach, administrator and historian. Al has coached every age category from Little League to Senior teams and 20% of those teams have won provincial championships. In 1977, Al was instrumental in bringing the Elmwood Giants back to life and has helped raise funds that have allowed the Giants to make over $100,000 worth of improvements to their field. Al is a four-time Manager of the Year in the Manitoba Junior Baseball League. He is a member of the Baseball Manitoba Honour Society. in 2007, he was named Baseball Manitoba's Volunteer of the Year.


Albert Lamoreux

Inducted: 2003
Date of Birth: October 3, 1908
Location: Transcona

Albert Lamoreux pitched for Transcona for the Winnipeg Senior League titles in 1938 and 1939. Lamoreux was allowed six hits in a 7-1 win over St. Boniface, winning the fifth consecutive Intermediate crown for Transcona in 1931. He also pitched, for the Elks, a total of 17 innings back to back in a 7-6 loss to Norwood and 15-3 win over Dokey Tigers in a four team Winnipeg Senior League (Arenas were fourth team). The highlight of Albert`s pitching career was the opportunity to pitch against Lefty Grove, a great pitching star of the Philadelphia Athletics and Boston Red Sox at the old Wesley Park, in St. Boniface as a Winnipeg All-Star player. Albert mainly pitched for the Elks and Transcona, and now joins Transcona team mates, catcher Gerry Marcotte and shortstop Joe Teres in Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame.


Alex Kurceba

Alex Kurceba played for 17 years (from 1943-60) with the Morse Place Juniors, Elmwood Giants, Winnipeg Reo Rods, Swan River, International Falls, and the Dauphin Redbirds. Kurceba was a good hitter, and a very good catcher-outfielder with a strong and accurate throwing arm. In the 1947 Junior All-Star Game, in front of 5,000 fans at Osborne Stadium, Kurceba led the North Division with four hits. Alex also played against prominent touring teams such as the House of David and Satchel Paige`s all-stars. Kurceba also had a great hockey career for 25 years, including a Fort Frances Canadians Allan Cup victory. Kurceba was inducted into Northwestern (Ontario) Sports Hall of Fame in 1984.


Alexander "Dick" McKenzie

Inducted: 1998
Date of Birth: December 26, 1899 - August 19,

McKenzie played with Neepawa in 20`s, was president of Neepawa and District League from 1950 - 69, M.B.A. director for 2 years, and umpired 1170 baseball games at all levels while keeping records of each and every game.


Almer McKerlie

Inducted: 1997

McKerliewas an all star catcher for Fort William Legion, who won the Northern and Central Ontario title. Almer later went to St. Louis Cardinals spring training camp at St. Petersburg, Florida in 1949. McKerlie caught five seasons for the great Carman Cardinals teams of the late 40s and early 50s. McKerlie was star catcher for three years and hit .333 one season. McKerlie played and coachedminor and senior baseball at Miami till 1963. McKerlie was an excellent umpire and hockey referee for 20 years and was elected to the M.B.A. honour Society in 1987.
