Murray Zuk

Inducted: 1999

Zuk played on 4 provincial winners at Hamiota, was the first M.B.A. president from 1969-70 when 4 groups amalgamated, coached and umpired baseball in Souris for many years, and was head coach for the Souris Cardinals Western Canada Juvenile champions in 1967. Zuk was C.F.A.B. director for 4 years, W.C.B.A. Director for 2 year, and was a Cincinnati Red scout for 28 years. He helped several players obtain scholarships, is currently Atlanta Braves Western Canada scouting director, and in 1990 was the assistant coach for the Western Canada Bantam Champion. Zuk was also very involved in figure skating in Manitoba.


Daune Yerex

Duane Yerex was an excellent Player/Builder for the sport of baseball. Duane was a southpaw pitcher with good fastball and curve. He started with Eden at 16 years of age, moved to home community Springhill squad from 1950-55, won team Neepawa and District League in 1954, and returned to Eden. Duane was often selected to all star teams, and moved to Winnipeg to manage a tournament team, St. Avila Royals, for four years. Duane later returned to Neepawa and managed the Farmers for four years, managed the Cubs for one season, was a work horse on the mound as he hurled 30 innings in a four day stretch including 14 frames at Dauphin and a 1-0 victory over the Redbirds. Duane tossed a perfect game on July 1 at Austin for Brandon Cloverleafs against Selkirk. Duane was a great supporter of baseball and the Hall of Fame.


Mort Wright

Mort Wright played minor ball in Brandon, went to Washington Senators camp in Florida in 1953, but returned to play with Brandon Athletics, Greys, Cloverleafs. He pitched three no-hitters and played a prominent role on the Cloverleafs three Central Manitoba Baseball Association champions of 1955-57. Later Mort was playing manager of Cloverleafs teams of 1958-60, which won three more C.M.B.A. titles. After M.S.B.L. was formed, Wright managed the Cloverleafs to three straight league and provincial titles, from 1967-69. Wright later managed or assisted at Virden and at Riverside. Mort Wright retired in 1992 after 41 seasons of playing, coaching, and managing with teams that won six C.M.B.A. titles, five M.S.B.L. crowns, and two Manitoba championships.


Barry Wowk

Barry Wowk played with Angusville Cardinals from 1974-83, Souris Cardinals in 1984 and 86, and the Brandon Cloverleafs from 1987-91. Barry served as coach/manager for the following Team Manitoba teams: in the Western Canadian’s at Brandon in 1991, Kamloops in 1992 and Red Deer in 1994. Barry served as President of the M.S.B.L. from 1997 to the present and was selected to the M.S.B.L. Honour Society in 1999 and the MBA Honour Society in 2002. Barry was a player/manager of the Simplot Millenium Baseball Park in 2000-01 and continues to be a very active baseball catcher for various Canadian and U.S. teams in competitions in Arizona, Florida, and Puerto Rico.


Nelson Woods

Nelson Woods was a good outfielder in 1940s and 1950s, and played on district junior team in 1948 which won Fort Qu`Appelle (Saskatchewan) tournament over Regina, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Notre Dame. Nelson coached both juvenile and midget teams to Western Canada titles in mid-1960s. He also umpired for twelve years in MSBL, and was in the Canadian senior championship in 1970. Nelson was also prominent in hockey and in curling, and in 1980 he won silver at Canadian Senior Curling Championships.


Ellis Woods

Ellis played in M.S.B.L. for 22 years with the Hamiota Red Sox and had a batting average of .272 and was named to all star team six times and never at the same position (2nd, C, 3rd, OF & Utility). Ellis won Manitoba title in 1964 and 1979 and won three provincial minor crowns with Hamiota in 1957,60, and 66. Woods played with Team Toba in Western Canadians at North Battleford in 1974 and was a team leader in developing computer programs at the Midget Nationals in Stonewall and at the 1999 Pan Am Games. Woods also coached the Shoal Lake high school basketball tour of Finland and Sweden in 1980's and served the Winnipeg High School Hockey League as scheduler, Statistian and Commissioner.


Joe Wiwchar

Joe was and still is actively invovled as a builder of the sport of baseball. Joe coached from 1953-98 continuously, 1953-65 with Earl Grey C.C. (pony, colt, colt grad), and coached South End Sioux to league title in 1966 and `67. In 1968 Joe coached the Fort Rouge Mallards (Manitoba-Saskatchewan), reps to Canadian Junior Championships, and in 1971 the Morden Beavers to gold in Manitoba and silver at Westerns. From 1971-98 Joe coached the Morden Mohawks, who won 14 league crowns, the Morden midgets in 1973 and `75, he coached the Manitoba Juniors to silver medals in Canada Games at St. John`s Newfoundland in 1977. Joe coached the Manitoba Bisons to gold at Westerns and bronze at Canadians. Joe was the recipient of M.B.A. coach of the year in 1986, and volunteer of the year in 1985. From 1986-92 Joe coached the Pembina Valley Orioles juniors. In 1994 Joe chaperoned at World Children`s Baseball Fair in Japan, was coach/coordinator of baseball program (ages 8-40) La Rochelle France (1995-96), coach (`98) and manager (`97) of Manitoba Selects at Blue Jays Cup, and he served the MBA in several capacities from 1968-98.


Bob Wilson

Bob Wilson played in the Brandon After Little League, Pony League, Brandon Athletics, and for one year Bob joined the Cloverleafs in 1957. For the next 21 years Bob won the Central Manitoba Baseball crown four times from 1957-60, won M.S.B.L. title six times and the Manitoba senior A crown five times (66, 69, 70, 71, 76). Bob plyed in the Canadian championships at Kenosee (1971), took silver at the Canadian championships in Edmunston, N.B. in 1973, and was named to M.S.B.L. first all star team nine times and the second all star team three times. Bob had a 17 year batting average of .306 in M.S.B.L., and was named to the M.S.B.L. forty year all star team as an outfielder.


Johnny Wilson

Johnny Wilson started with senior at 13 years of age and continued till 45 years of age. He played with brother Vic, Horace and cousin Bob with great tournament team from Tamarisk. He started in 1929 and in 1938 was shortstop for Broadview Buffalo team who won South Saskatchewan championship. In 1939 was with Coniston, Ontario, in 40`s he managed Gilbert Plains which included Orville and Roy Minish, Billy Murray, in early 1950`s he managed Grandview Maroons in Northern and Manitoba-Saskatchewan League which included many imports. He was chairman of committee to plan and build new Grandview Ball Park, opening game in 1967 featured Team Canada and Yorkton Cardinals, in 1979 Grandview Centennial Park was renamed "Wilson Memorial Park" to honour the sports contribution of John and Bob Wilson. "Johnny was the best all round ball player, we saw", said brother Horace. "He was an outstanding shortstop, a big man who was a tremendous hitter and bunter." Grandview Maroons purchased the Winnipeg Maroons uniforms from Bruno Haas. Johnny was an M.B.A. director, president of North West League, coached extensively, and convened provincial tournaments.


Bob Williamson

Bob Williamson was an excellent second baseman and later outfielder for 24 years with Riverside in the M.S.B.L. Bob was on the first all star team eleven times, second all star team seven times, and was the batting champion twice, in 1977 (.442) and in 1982 (.415). Hal was also a M.S.B.L. champion eight times, and a Manitoban champion five times (73, 74, 78, 81, 82). Bob played for Team Manitoba several times (won bronze at Canadians in 1976), holds two M.S.B.L. records, for 42 runs scored in 1980 and hit by pitch in 1982. Bob won the Ab Richardson award for dedication to baseball in 1992, became a M.S.B.L. Honorary Life Member in 2000, and was named the 40th anniversary second all star team as an outfielder. Bob Williamson also directed the Belmont operation for Riverside for many years. Bob was known as a fierce competitor, a fine player, and a "great team" man. Willie joins his father Wimpy in the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
