Jack Hind

Date of Birth: Deceased, 1950
A prominent junior and senior baseball player in Winnipeg both before and after he served overseas in World War One. Helped make Wesley Park in Winnipeg one of the first in Canada with lights. After playing for many years, he organized and managed several Winnipeg teams, including the West End Rosedales, 1945-50.

Born in 1908, he was the catcher and often the manager for McConnell`s strong teams of the 30s, 40s, and 50s. A highly respected leader on and off the field.

A founding member of the Manitoba Minor Baseball Association, he was the first President of the Manitoba Senior Baseball League. Formerly an Athletic Director in Dauphin and Virden, and sports editor of the Brandon Sun.

Lorne Caldwell

Location: Hamiota
Born in 1917, he played in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, a good hitter who pitched and played second base despite the fact he could throw only underhand because of a shoulder injury. Managed and coached Hamiota Red Sox, 1961-1971, winning 5 pennants and 3 league titles in the M.S.B.L.

Born in Winnipeg in 1934, he played in Cardale, Rapid City, Melita, Lyleton, Brandon, Riverside. Coached successful youth teams in Brandon, Neepawa, and Cardale.

Irv Powers

Played with Brandon Cloverleafs, 1955-57, but an industrial accident cut short his playing career. He went on to coach and manage Cloverleafs for 23 years, and in the 1970s and early 80s he coached several provincial representatives in regional or national championship events.

Ab Richardson

Location: McConnell, Manitoba
Born in 1910, pitched for McConnell, Bradwardine, and Hartney before becoming an umpire, where he made his mark on the game. Was umpire-in-chief for M.S.B.L. for several seasons, and conducted countless umpiring clinics. He was also rewarded honourary life membership in M.S.B.L. Ab was also inducted into the M.B.A. Honour Society in 1971. President of M.S.B.L. in 1966, 1969, 1970.

Bobby Bend

Born at Poplar Point in 1914, a member of a famous Portage district family. He began to umpire at age 16 and umpired in the Interlake region for some 50 years.
