Alexander McKenzie was born in Neepawa, Manitoba on December 26, 1899. McKenzie started off his career playing baseball in the streets of his town with other local kids. The police, however, gave 7-year-old McKenzie a court summons for this. Naturally, he took up umpiring. Over the course of his career, McKenzie umpired 1170 games of baseball at all levels while keeping records of each and every game. He was also a Manitoba Baseball Association director for two years, and president of the Neepawa and District League from 1950-69.
