Clayton Family
Stewart Clayton and his three sons, Wilf Clayton, Randy Clayton, and Greg Clayton all had successful baseball careers. Stewart was a player and coach of the Kaleida K's, which all three sons would subsequently join. Stewart grew up as a farmer from south of Manitou, playing Senior ball from his mid-teens until his early fifties. He was a line-drive hitter who played third base and pitched. From 1974-1978, Stewart played and coached the Kaleida K's which were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011. Sadly, Stewart passed away on October 14, 2023.
Wilf Clayton was a successful catcher for the Kaleida and Manitou teams for thirty-three years. He would go on to coach minor ball for thirteen years, with his teams winning provincial championships at 15U and 18U levels. Wilf held the position of President of Border Baseball League for eleven seasons.
Randy Clayton was primarily a middle infielder. He played for several teams, including the Kaleida K's and Souris in the Manitoba Senior League, and for the 1977 Canada Summer Games team that won a silver medal. He attended Mayville State College from 1977-1981 and was a part of three Conference championship teams. Currently, Randy resides in Kansas City, Missouri, and continues coaching the next generation of baseball players.
Greg Clayton played thirty three years of Senior ball for Kaleida and Manitou and was a part of nine provincial championship teams and went to the Western Canadian Championship eight times. He has had a successful playing and coaching career, coaching the Manitou Braves, coaching alongside Patti Hacault in the Pembina Hills AAA program, the Pembina Valley Orioles Junior team, and even became an umpire intermittently for twenty years.
