Garth White was born on October 22, 1953, in Neepawa, Manitoba. In the 1970s and early 1980s, White played Intermediate ball for the Neepawa Farmers of the Yellowhead League. In 1981, his team went on to win the provincial Intermediate championship and competed in the Western Canadian tournament in Quesnel, British Columbia. The following year, the Farmers joined the Manitoba Senior Baseball League. White was a coach for the team from 1986 through 2010. While in the Manitoba Senior Baseball League, White was chosen as an all star in 17 of the 24 years he participated. White’s teams won League championships in both 1992 and 1994. While being a fantastic coach for 24 years, he was also much more than that. The Farmers’ success was directly attributed to White’s commitment to keeping them going. He worked tirelessly to do all the jobs that needed to be done, including recruiting players, fundraising, and becoming the field maintenance supervisor. Alongside his wife Gail, White billeted many of the American imports who joined the Farmers. In addition to his efforts for the Neepawa club, White was also a part of the coaching and managerial staff of several Manitoba Senior Baseball League all star teams that went on to compete in the Western Canadian championships.
