Scott Kelman was born on May 7, 1981. He grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he was known as an incredible athlete throughout his childhood, particularly his accomplishments in baseball and hockey. From 1992 to 2016, Kelman played with the St. James A's in Pee Wee, Bantam, Midget, Junior, and Senior categories. Due to hockey commitments and injuries, Kelman missed a few years of baseball. Kelman's resume includes his Bantam Player of the Year award in 1996 and midget Player of the Year award in 1997. He was a member of Team Manitoba at the Blue Jays Cup in both 1997 and 1998, while also making Canada's National Junior Team selection camp in 1998. In 2001, Kelman played for Manitoba's team at the Canada Summer Games and was the Most Valuable Player of the Manitoba Junior League. In 2007 and 2011, he was the batting champion of the Winnipeg Senior League while also being awarded the Most Valuable Player award for the league in 2011. Kelman's outstanding accomplishments in baseball were maintained alongside his major junior and professional hockey career.
